Why the way a car is washed decides the state of its paint
Most scratches on a used car do not come from stones or keys. They come from washing. Grit picked up from one wing and carried across the bonnet on a sponge works like sandpaper — and the harder you press to get the car clean, the deeper it goes.
An automatic wash does the same thing, only faster and across the whole car at once: the brush that served ten cars before yours carries their dirt over your paint. Hence the regular web of swirl marks and holograms you see in sunlight.
A hand wash done properly solves this with one rule: dirt that has come off the car never goes back onto the paint.

How we wash
- Pre-wash
- First we rinse and cover the car in snow foam. The foam softens and takes most of the dirt off without anything touching the paint — it is the step most often skipped, and it decides the rest.
- Wheels and arches separately
- Wheels, tyres and arches are washed first and with their own set. Brake dust is the most aggressive dirt on the car and has no business meeting the microfibre used on paint.
- Two buckets with grit guards
- One bucket with shampoo, one for rinsing the mitt, both with a guard at the bottom. Grit settles under the grate and stays there instead of going back onto the bodywork.
- pH-neutral shampoo
- Neutral pH does not strip wax or a ceramic coating. A car we protected leaves with that protection still on it.
- Drying
- Microfibre and compressed air. Air pushes water out of shuts, mirrors and handles, so there are no runs an hour later in the places they always appear.
- Details
- Glass without streaks, seals wiped, sills and door frames cleaned. A properly clean car is one that does not mark your trouser leg as you get in.

How long it takes and whether to book
A hand wash with the wheels detailed usually takes one to two hours and you can wait for it. We have two bays, so during opening hours you can normally turn up unannounced.
Hours: Monday to Friday 9:00–18:00, Saturday 9:00–15:00, closed on Sunday. If you want to be sure a bay is free straight away, call +48 780 722 221.
Detailing, paint correction and ceramic coatings are booked in advance — there the car occupies a bay for a full day or longer.

Regular washing and detailing
A hand wash maintains a state. It does not remove swirls that are already in the paint and it does not lift contaminants bonded into the surface — that needs decontamination and paint correction.
If the car is protected by a coating, regular washing with a neutral shampoo is exactly what lets the coating reach the upper end of its life. It is the cheapest thing anyone can do for their paint.

Hand car wash
Is hand washing safe for the paint?
Yes. We work with the two-bucket method and grit guards, use pH-neutral shampoos and separate microfibres for paint, sills and wheels. That way grit is not carried across the bodywork, which is the main cause of the swirl marks automatic washes leave.
Do I need to book a wash?
No. You can turn up for a hand wash unannounced during opening hours: Monday to Friday 9:00–18:00, Saturday 9:00–15:00. We have two bays. Call +48 780 722 221 if you want to make sure one is free.
How long does a hand wash take?
Usually one to two hours including the wheels, and you can wait for it. The time depends on the state of the car — a car after winter with salt in the sills takes longer than one washed every two weeks.
Will washing strip my ceramic coating?
No. pH-neutral shampoos do not affect a coating or a wax. This kind of washing is exactly what extends the life of the protection — unlike strongly alkaline products and the brushes of an automatic wash.
Do you wash cars after winter, with road salt on them?
Yes, and that is when it matters most. Road salt stays in the sills, arches and shuts, where it keeps working. We give those places separate attention, and drying with compressed air removes the water from the shuts.
Will washing remove scratches from the paint?
No. Scratches and swirls sit in the clear coat and are removed by paint correction. A hand wash does the thing that matters more in the long run: it does not add new ones.
