Paint correction in Zielona Góra

Clear coat is soft and collects micro-scratches from everything that touches it. Most of them happen during washing: the brush in an automatic wash, one sponge carried across the whole car, drying with a towel that was lying on the floor. Each scratch on its own is invisible — together they form a web that shows in sunlight as a haze.

Holograms are a separate story: parallel streaks left by careless polishing, usually an aggressive machine with one compound and no second stage. Under spot lighting they appear as a regular pattern rather than as chaos. They are the most common reason a car looks better in the shade after a "polish" than it does in the sun.

Both defects sit in the clear coat, not on it. That is why they cannot be washed off or covered — the thin layer they sit in has to be removed.

Polishing, in everyday use of the word, means adding gloss. It is often done with a compound containing fillers, which sit in the scratch, even out how light reflects, and wash out within a few washes together with the effect. The car looks superb at handover and is back where it started a month later.

Paint correction removes the defect: we level a controlled layer of clear coat so the scratch stops existing, not so it stops being visible. The result does not wash away, because there is nothing to wash out. There is one cost: there is less clear coat afterwards, and that is exactly why we start with the gauge.

Measurement and assessment

A paint thickness gauge on every panel and an assessment under spot lighting. We see where the car has been polished before, where there is filler from a repair, and how much material is left. Without that, correction is guesswork.

Wash and decontamination

Pre-wash, snow foam, chemical and clay decontamination. Polishing dirty paint grinds the contaminants into the surface — that is a way of adding scratches, not removing them.

A test section

On one panel we select the compound and the pad, and see how much of the defect comes out and at what cost. Only then do we agree the scope with you: one stage, which takes most of the swirls out, or three, after which the paint is even under light.

Correction

Panel by panel, with temperature under control and the result checked under light as we go. Edges, pillars and tight areas are done with smaller pads, because that is where there is least clear coat.

Protection

Freshly corrected paint is protected — with a wax or a ceramic coating, depending on how long the result should last. Without it, the first season takes some of the work back.

Single-stage correction is for paint in good condition: it removes most swirls and clearly improves depth without going deep into the material. It usually takes a day.

Multi-stage correction, most often three stages, is for neglected paint or paint that has been through automatic washes: the first stage removes the defect, the following ones remove the marks left by the previous one. With a coating on top, the car stays with us for two to four days.

We book the slot in advance, because the car occupies a bay for a full day or longer.

If the gauge shows there is too little clear coat left — because the car has been polished several times already, or the panel has been repaired — we do not correct that panel. Removing another layer would mean burning through to the primer, and that is bodyshop work, not detailing.

Scratches you can feel with a fingernail go deeper than the clear coat. We can reduce them, but we will not remove them — and we say so before the work, not after it.
